"MICLEDI Microdisplays, formed in 2019, is a spin out from the Belgian R&D giant, IMEC. The company is privately held by European venture investors and institutions including the investment arm of IMEC.

Original proof-of-concept wafers demonstrating the company's unique approach to reconstituting III-V wafers on 300mm silicon substrates and hybrid wafer-to-wafer bonding method (the first using 300mm silicon wafers) were demonstrated to target customers in mid-2021. The company's first FHD blue microLED wafers came out of fab in Q42021 and were demonstrated at CES in Las Vegas, in January 2022.

Since then, second generation monochrome arrays have been provided as samples to certain key customers. In March 2022 the company announced an agreement with a major foundry to bring MICLEDI's unique 300mm manufacturing flow into mass production.
