Holographic Glasses for XR Telepresence

Description:

Recently, various remarkable XR telepresence demonstrations have been introduced by big tech companies. However, current devices remain too heavy and bulky for everyday use. This seminar reviews the recent progress in ‘holographic glasses,’ a glasses-form factor holographic near-eye display. First, the seminar introduces a series of ‘neural Holography’ studies, which leverage a learned wave propagation model using camera-in-the-loop technology to achieve unprecedented 3D image quality, particularly in resolution, contrast, speckle reduction, and aberration correction. Next, the seminar focuses on miniaturization efforts toward groundbreaking glasses form factors. At the end, the presenter addresses the remaining challenges for XR telepresence in a cloud-native environment.
