Failure Analysis in Dry Roll-Transferred MicroLEDs with Limited Prior Knowledge

Description:

Micro-LED displays face challenges in market entry due to high transfer costs. This study reverse-engineers micro-LEDs using focused ion beam milling and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Analysis revealed micro-LEDs are composed of GaN, with six layers and dimensions of 39 × 44 ?m². Kirkendall voids and misalignment in solder connections contribute to lighting failures. The developed 3D model can aid future failure analysis.
