Transmissive Diffractive Optical Elements Based on Cholesteric Liquid Crystal

Description:

We propose a transmissive diffractive optical element based on cholesteric liquid crystals. The proposed device shows wavelength selectivity stemming from the Bragg reflection of cholesteric liquid crystals and is in sharp contrast to conventional liquid crystal diffractive optical elements based on the Pancharatnam-Berry phase. Since diffraction is wavelength selective, the device is potentially attractive for the dispersion control of transmissive diffractive optical elements.
