Derek is an Electrical Systems Engineer with 20+ patents and over 10 years experience building low-power smart embedded devices. He currently leads the Systems Architecture team at Synaptics, building industry-leading capacitive touch products for Tier-1 OEMs around the world.
His background includes developing user interface hardware for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and BlackBerry Playbook while at Research In Motion, and several generations of capacitive multi-touch ASICs. He specialized in capacitive sensor design, including productizing several generations of Single Layer Multi-touch sensor architectures and geometries.
He currently lives in Vancouver, Canada with his family, enjoying all of boating and hiking adventures that the Pacfiic Northwest can offer.
