Dr. Robinson leads Rain’s optical design activity and new concept development. He is the author of more than 50 research articles, the book “Polarization Engineering for LCD Projection,” and over 200 US patents. He holds a BA, MA, and DPhil from the University of Oxford, UK; and was a Plessey Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, UK before becoming a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He spent seven years as a Principal Research Scientist an Sharp Laboratories of Europe, Oxford, UK before rteturning to Boiulder Colorado to join ColorLink, a spin-off polarization display company out of the University of Colorado. As Chief Scientist, he invented, developed and prototyped projection display systems for the consumer TV and business projector industries. The 3D cinema company RealD acquired ColorLink in 2007 where Dr. Robinson became Chief Scientist inventing and developing Cinema and TV 3D stereo technology. Morphing into a privacy technology, an eyewear free 3D tablet technology lead to the spin-out company Reald Me, now renamed Rain Technology. More recently he has been developing an anamorphic AR solution that provides higher brigtness head mounted displays within the footprint of modern eyewear designs.
