Ajit Ninan has a long history in imaging and media that spans 25+ years. His work at both startups and large companies were centered around building and standardizing video, imaging solutions and network protocols like 802.17. His projects range from display systems, HDR cameras, laser light sources, end to end high dynamic range (HDR) ecosystems, formats, and augmented reality (AR)/VR ecosystems. His work encompasses all aspects of imaging from display, optics, color, tone, and display mapping to volumetric imaging. His accomplishments include Dolby Vision, building the first 4000 nits HDR display “Pulsar” that was recognized by the AIS Lumiere Award for “pioneering HDR in Hollywood.” With more than 400 patents, many of them centered around displays & imaging systems; he also helped drive the adoption of QD TVs and HDR in the industry by building the first shipped QD monitor and the first HDR Grading monitor in the world. He received the SID Best in Show Award for the first QD monitor and was inducted as a SMPTE fellow. He was also a key inventor and author of JPEG-XT Part 2/JPEG-HDR and helped build Motorola’s Perceptual video processor encoder solutions. His current work and expertise encompass driving Meta’s platform and product architecture teams for near eye displays, human perception leading the graphics and imaging processing pipeline designs.
