Fundamentals of TFTs
Description:
In part one, Jae Kyeong Jeong presents a concise course on the fundamental principles of thin-film transistor (TFT) device physics and fabrication processes. The lecture emphasizes the rationale behind material selection, device architectures, and performance optimization strategies for oxide TFTs. It also covers the key unit processes and integration techniques used in low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) TFTs. A comparative analysis between LTPS and oxide TFTs is provided, highlighting their respective advantages and limitations. This discussion offers valuable insights into the emerging low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) technology. Finally, the presentation addresses the underlying mechanisms responsible for device instabilities, including carrier trapping, hot carrier injection, and joule heating. In part two, Seung Hee Nam introduces various thin-film transistor (TFT) devices, processes, and characteristics used in OLED display experiments and manufacturing. He explains the essential characteristics required for each TFT in OLED switching and driving, and how these TFT devices are applied in display applications. He also examines the manufacturing processes, challenges, and specific features of each type of TFT device in industrial settings. This course also covers the characteristics and recent developments of oxide TFTs in the display industry.
